Wave and Oscillation Lecture one
↦Write down the definition of Periodic Motion, simple harmonic motion, Time period and Frequency.
Periodic Motion: If the motion of a body is such that at regular interval of time the motions repeats
then that motion is called periodic motion.
Simple harmonic motion: If the acceleration of an oscillating particle is
proportional to its distance from its equilibrium position and points always
towards the equilibrium position, then that motion is called simple harmonic
motion.
Time Period: Time taken for complete oscillation is called time period.
Frequency:
The number of oscillation completed by a particle in one second is called it’s frequency.
↦Write down the characteristics of simple harmonic motion:
- a) It is a periodic motion.
- b) After a particular interval of time its motion reverse.
- c) Its motion is in a straight line
- d) Acceleration is always proportional to displacement.
- e) Acceleration is opposite to displacement .
- f) Acceleration is towards to the mid position of particle.
